Throughout this semester, AWOL’s podcasting team has been investigating the issue of payment for AU student interns. After speaking to several students about their experiences working unpaid internships or having to pass up the opportunity to intern due to their inability to work without pay, we reached out to Carlos Mark Vera, the head of Pay Our Interns, to learn more about what is being done to secure payment for interns in Washington. Our team also spoke to members of AU’s admissions office and career center to learn about what options are available for students who can’t afford to work without pay, but want to gain experience and make their resume stand out.
