Spooky scenes at and around American University

Matheus Kogi Fugita Abrahao, Photographer

About the piece:

These photos were taken mostly at the American University’s campus with two exceptions, one at Union Station and the other near H street. The inspiration for the photos are a mix of creepy pasta and old horror movies. The essay pays homage to the past and present of horror while combining aspects of both different styles. Certainly not something that would usually get published at journalistic magazine, but it’s Halloween. Grain and motion blur are two aspects that are normally undesirable on photos, but once the objective is shifted from pursuing beauty and balance to ugliness and discomfort, both elements become great allies. After all, these photos are not meant to be beautiful, but horrific.
