On Nov. 5, various American University clubs hosted events for students to gather and watch live coverage of the 2024 presidential election. During these watch parties, attendees saw reports from the first states to report their voting outcomes.
Early in the night, the election’s outcome was ambiguous. To pass the time, viewers shared takes and analyses at their tables, sporting the candidates’ names and slogans on their clothes and hats. Some of them did homework, while others played video games. At the School of Public Affairs Undergraduate Council’s gathering, students played quiz game Jeopardy with election trivia.
College Democrats, the Kennedy Political Union, and the AU NAACP were also among the on-campus groups that organized public watch parties.
