American University students sat on the Main Quad April 8 to view a solar eclipse that crossed the United States.
AU’s College of Arts and Science hosted The Great American Eclipse Viewing Party while students and nearby residents grouped together on patches of grass and blankets spread across the lawn in preparation for the eclipse. Members of AU’s Physics Department handed out solar eclipse glasses to students on the Quad, according to a College of Arts and Science news article. Food — including pizza, cupcakes, brownies — was provided, as well. Student groups played music and tabled for their organizations.
Around 3:20 PM, viewers began putting on their eclipse glasses and peering above Bender Library as the eclipse reached its peak.
