Tens of thousands of people gathered in New York City on Sept. 17 to protest the U.S.’s use of fossil fuels. Protesters from Washington D.C. and the surrounding area–including students from American University, Georgetown University, the George Washington University, George Mason University and Howard University–took a four-hour bus ride to New York City for the protest.
The protest came before President Joe Biden was scheduled to speak at the U.N. General Assembly. Protesters said in their demands that Biden should declare a climate emergency and halt non-renewable energy use in the U.S. and encourage other countries to follow suit.
